I would like to apologize for posting this article, but to tell our story and the struggle of getting the maternity benefits, so that other people may not experience this scenario in the future.
IN THE HOSPITAL
My wife and I rushed to the Mariano Marcos Memorial Hospital and Medical Center - BATAC CITY, due to high blood pressure of my wife while last session of check up to our doctor in laoag, we had to go rush to the hospital to deliver the baby immediately, as the doctor command us to hurry up that afternoon, our baby was born @ 5:00 PM, 2025. The operation was successful, and we have a healthy baby in the incubator. She is only 8 months in the womb, but miraculously, she is good, with no other physical problems like a missing hand, and so on. Anyway, our doctor decided to deliver the baby through a Cesarean operation. We've stayed in the hospital for 10 to 12 days, and I'm the watcher. I feel that these days, a lot of mixed emotions from easiest to hardest and happiest to loneliest, but I can't give you the story behind that mix of emotions for 12 days for personal reasons.
FINANCIAL HELP & HOSPITAL BILLS
CONGRESSMAN BARBA helped us with 15,000 pesos, even if I was not from Batac and I would not be able to get any, but they still gave, and I call that grace from God.
Sando Marcos, with DSWD's help, with 5,000 pesos, I should get a higher amount when I get back to Laoag to submit the paper bills before I pay, but because we are running out of time, we pay the bill first, which it should not be, but it's ok. Our bills get lower with PhilHealth with a 75,758-peso discount. We paid the private doctor for 68,000 pesos, which is almost $1,200. Our real hospital bill was 137,651.61 pesos ($2,414). THE GENEROSITY OF THE CHURCH
Our pastor from Gates of Praise helped us with a financial amount, as well as the ushering ministry, with more money. All of the help from the church was a blessing, because we were looking for more money at that time, and we completed the amount we needed to pay the doctor on time.
BEFORE THE ADMISSION
We do not have any room left in the PUBLIC, we only have 2 options that time, stay outside and wait for the other patience to go home in the morning or get some room in the Semi-private room, I choose the semi-private because I thinks it’s the right decision, and it is good for both of us because that’s were going to stay and the baby will be in the other building with air conditioner too.
WHAT'S THE HARDEST?
The hardest was when I know we don’t have enough money left and I know were still staying and we need more money for food outside, even though were receiving meals in the lunch time and evening it’s not enough for both of us as they only give 1 meal that time, we lately know that we can have two meals when were going home then, it’s not awareness but the stupidity of the people there.
You know, when you don’t have money left in your pocket and you still have a few days to stay, you must call your sibling to borrow. If they lend you money, it’s great, but if it’s not the time for them to lend, then you have a bad day.
THE LAST PART AND THE MATERNITY BENEFITS
When we got home that night, I’m tired, that all I can say I was tired and exited to go home because grandma is waiting for us, In the morning I process everything like all of it from medical cert to real copy of the ultrasound which is never needed to submit, I lately known when the SSS officer talk to me to submit does papers to scan and submit it online and the website ask me for 2 things only that it was not in the papers that I already get, anyways it’s ok, but first what they need is the BANK DETAILS of my wife, I was in trouble many times when they rejected it for some I think 5 times for 1 month because they answer our e-mail as a follow up every 5 days.
So this is what happen why I’m rejected for that long, first you have to make sure that your bank accounts are Updated like your Cp number, Last name or surname when you get married if you’re a women, something like that, because the SSS will make sure that the account was correct, they are going to ask the bank branch if everything is updated or true, I mean correct. Another is the way you get the picture you submitted, while holding the account details, must be correct.
So finally, after 1 month of correcting details in the bank, our Disbursement account was approved by SSS.
I thought that’s it, I just need to wait for the money to appear in the bank account of my wife, but I was wrong, after 2 weeks without knowing that is when I recently again discovered that you need to apply for the MATERNITY BENEFITS, Grrrrwwww!!!!
So, this is what happens when you’re not attentive to details online, what’s more, with illiterate people?
Application submitted, You have to find the APPLY FOR MATERNITY BENIFITS on your SSS acount online, I put the date of the delivery, then some more details, last the Certified True Copy of the Certificate of Live Birth from the hospital and then a copy with seal from registral office of Batac city and along with the Official receipt, You only have 2 papers to submit, but I again I was rejected for many times I think 4 times this time, because if some errors like wrong date of delivery, wrong papers submitted, Incomplete details, they will not accept it even how you pray, if you send it wrong, your still wrong, I should ask for the seal or tag and OR before we get home that day but it’s was night how could I be that fast? And I was not well informed by the SSS, I mean, this is the problem of SSS officials or government employees, they don’t care about you, just make sure you do it by yourself correctly. The last submission was correct, so I was finally approved.
After 5 days of waiting, we only got 14,800 pesos, that’s it, it's not worth it, but I think you also have to make sure that you regularly pay your SSS contribution, complete every year, maybe you will then get higher benefits.
